Robert “Bob” Abrams

Hollywood Animation Artist, and Fine Art Painter

Born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania in 1931, legendary artist Bob Abrams, lived a charmed life as he quoted at our initial introduction.

After being discharged from the Navy in 1953 at the age of 22, Bob attended the Art Institute of Pittsburg. After completing an AA degree, he was offered a position with Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California in 1955 and it was here his career in fine arts began. While in California he attended the Art Center School in Los Angeles and several colleges and Universities for advertising art design, cinematography, and film editing, as well as a teaching credential from UCLA.

Bob spent his career as an artist in the golden age of Hollywood animation from 1955 – 1970, working with legendary studios like Disney, Hanna/Barbera, Warner Bros., and Bob Clampett Productions, to name a few to his credit. His filmography includes “Sleeping Beauty,” “Yogi Bear,” “The Jetsons,” “Paul Bunyan,” “Mr. Magoo,” “The Bugs Bunny Road Runner Hour,” and “Beany and Cecil,” and cartoon shorts whose characters are deeply rooted in the American imagination. In 1969 he was inducted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the American Film Institute with signed letters from Gregory Peck and Charlton Heston while working at Warner Bros.

After leaving the film industry, Abrams became Sr. Art director for advertising agencies and corporations in Los Angeles where his work was honored with awards from the Advertising and Printing industries. Abrams fine art has been shown in galleries across the country and is included in collections on three continents. His stone lithograph for the International Museum for 20th Century Art is on display at the United Nations in New York City.

Bob retired in the late 1990’s, moved to the state of Washington and has taught at The Art Institute of Seattle, Edmonds Community College, and H.Cogswell College in Everett who honored him with a MFA credential. He has lectured at various colleges throughout the US.

Bob resided in La Conner, Washington, a charming, historic waterfront town with his very affectionate cat “Sylvester,” until his death on October 11, 2023, at the age of 92.

"It has been an absolute joy to work with Bob Abrams in the selling of his beautiful art and signatures. He was a man who followed his heart which gave him the experience of living a charmed life as he quoted to me. I will truly miss his cheerful voice and wide smile. Bob was a gift to many and his time on earth was well lived."
